I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately, but I have some people that comment on my blog that really make little sense. They take the keywords and say something, and it’s *close* but not quite right. And I used to think it was just a language thing, but there’s been some really irritating, borderline insulting comments now. So I’m very grateful for your comments, but please ensure they make sense and are polite, respectful and on topic.
And as this is a writing blog, and sometimes my comments show up in stuff that I post to other places, I’m paying more attention to the comments I approve.
So, if you’ve had comments approved in the past, and they stop appearing now, then that’s probably why.

Ah, you have met the new breed of spam. Annoying isn’t it. I always delete it as soon as I see it. I’d rather have a few comments that are good and set a great example for other readers than lots that set a bad tone.
Can you imagine how much worse it can be when your site is called Hundred Quid a Day. Every no-good spammer this side of mars thinks it means they can just advertise whatever junk they want and I am supposed to be cool with it. It’s even worse with my older sites as they rank well for odd terms through strength of age alone. Once I took one of the anti spam filters down on a site and had 10k of spam to delete. That was no fun I can tell you.

Matt, there’s an irony to this one. You landed in the spam too.

Kai,
I’ve noticed a similar thing on my blogs and after researching some of the email addresses and links that are left with these messsages it seems that some of them might be spambots that somehow manage to sneak past the spam software. I find that when I run the searches there are often other bloggers reporting and complaining about these addresses. It’s a shame. I’m not sure what the purpose is, since the links are rarely to anything of interest to regular blog readers. It almost makes “buy my book” on the writers’ sites seem rational–well, almost.

Nah, the ‘buy my books’ stuff just makes me ragequit.
There’s nothing rational about advertising online any more. We’re this digital wasteland of failed pitches and glass shattered whining to the almighty god/goddess of ‘pay-me!’

Well there are some people who comment nonesense to other blogs. I always experience it in our blog. Hoping that spammers will be stopped.
